School Street, Shinwell
This scheme involves the construction of 49 super energy efficient, affordable dwellings of 2, 3 and 4 bedrooms on a ‘brownfield’ site. The scheme has been designed to make the most efficient use of the site whilst respecting the amenity of the surrounding houses. The new brick built properties are arranged in two storey short terrace blocks or as semi-detached units. Dwellings incorporate feature gables and projecting bays that offer natural surveillance of the street. Mature woodland runs along the northern edge of the site and newly planted ‘green fingers’ of native hedgerow form boundaries between the houses.
The development achieved Levels 4 and 5 of the ‘Code for Sustainable Homes’, whilst two dwellings were selected to be rated as zero carbon after achieving Code Level 6, the highest rating achievable under the code.
