Located in the traditional market town of Oakham, Rutland, 'Saxon Gardens' built and managed by McCarthy and Stone is a "Retirement Living Plus" development providing 58 assisted living apartments and associated communal facilities including a coffee bar and restaurant.

Given the local urban context a traditional vernacular design approach was adopted. This includes pitched roofs with projecting gables to provide rythm and a strong vertical emphasis to the facade. The main body brick is complemented by feature areas utilising the local iron stone.
