30 Year Celebrations

March saw us celebrating 30 years since joining the Acanthus network of architects. United by a strong commitment to design, sharing of information and good practice Acanthus is the oldest and largest network of its kind with independent practices stretching from Lerwick in the Shetland Isles to Pembroke in Wales and Chelmsford in Essex. We were delighted to host a reception at our office, here in Leeds to celebrate our 30 years of membership. Clients, fellow consultants and staff enjoyed a relaxed evening with fine wine that had been carefully selected by a core team who had worked relentlessly to ensure the highest quality control was achieved.

Acanthus Conference 2019

Our annual conference took place in Belfast with the theme of History and Urban Design in Ulster. Delegates from six practices attended, gaining a fascinating insight into this amazing city and the impact of recent decades on the city centre. Now rapidly becoming a “destination” we were impressed with the vibrancy and rapid regeneration that is taking place. Acanthus WSM once again demonstrated their resilience by attending all lectures, building visits and an early return flight, despite very little sleep and the clocks going forward!

Acanthus WSM are collaborating once again with Winvic Construction Ltd on our second mixed used residential development in Sheffield. Construction is due to commence next month on this large PRS and Student project on the former HSBC site at Hoyle Street. Located on a major arterial route into city centre the site is close to Opal 2, a £65m major regeneration scheme also completed by AWSM.

The proposed development consists of 247 PRS apartments and 658 student bed spaces arranged in clusters. It is being delivered on behalf of The Cassidy Group, an international property company.

The site is home to the only remaining example of steelmaking Cementation Furnace of its type in the country. This Grade II listed structure and scheduled ancient monument will undergo a programme of repair as part development and form the focal point of the residential courtyard.
