Pontefract

We are delighted to be assisting Wakefield District Housing with the regeneration of two brownfield sites in Pontefract, identified as a gateway within the Central Pontefract Masterplan and the Tanshelf Study undertaken by Wakefield District Council.  The sites located at the former fire station off Stuart Road and the former builders merchants off Colonels Walk will be for residential use providing much needed 100% affordable homes. Both projects are currently progressing through the planning application process.

The development at the fire station site comprises 37 apartments over three storeys with landscaped courtyard and secure parking court; whilst Colonels Walk comprises 36 apartments over two storeys again with landscaping and resident car parking. Both developments will offer a mix of one and two bedroom apartments, a percentage of which will provide adaptable and accessible accommodation.

Located within a 10 minute walk to the centre of Pontefract and a short stroll from Pontefract Tanshelf train station and other local amenities they will both be highly sustainable projects.

It is anticipated that works on site will commence in May 2021.

End of 2020!

December 2020

As the sun goes down on a year unlike any other, the Acanthus WSM team have been counting their blessings. We have continued to work throughout, agilely moving between office and home working, ensuring it was very much business as usual. Crucially, we have all remained fit and healthy.

Despite the disruption, the practice has remained busy with several schemes progressing largely unaffected.

2020 saw construction start on over 450 homes, whilst a further 320 were completed throughout Yorkshire and the Humber, ranging in size from small bespoke residential schemes to private retirement living developments.  The usual pre-Christmas, planning submission rush saw us accelerating the design for two large apartment schemes in Castleford and a nursing home in Leeds.

We enjoy the dynamics of office working and are all looking forwards to returning to our city centre studio as soon as possible in the New Year.

Vicar Lane, Leeds

November 2020

Detailed planning permission was granted this month for an exciting new Apart-Hotel that is to be built on the roof of an existing building in central Leeds. The proposed hotel comprises 106 apartments offering a range of accommodation from studios to spacious suites that can comfortably accommodate four people.

Located on Vicar Lane there will be two additional floors added to the current Travel Lodge whilst a further five storey wing will be built to the rear, around an internal landscape courtyard. It is anticipated that Modern Methods of Construction will be utilised due to the complexity of building in such a heavily constrained site. It is anticipated that construction will start in the summer of 2020.
